Toluene diisocyanate is a colorless to light yellow liquid with an irritating odor. TDI 80/20 is a mixture of 80% toluene-2,4-disocyanate and 20% toluene-2,6-disocyanate.  Its main uses include:

  1. Polyurethane Material Synthesis: TDI is one of the main raw materials for polyurethane materials, reacting with polyethers or polyesters to form the main chain of polyurethane. By adjusting the ratio of different substances, polyurethane materials with different hardness, elasticity, and durability can be prepared.
  2. Foam Materials: TDI is mainly used to manufacture flexible polyurethane foams for furniture, bedding, automotive, and aviation seating.
  3. Coatings and Adhesives: TDI is used in the manufacture of coatings and adhesives, such as automotive repair paints, wood coatings, and high-performance anti-corrosion coatings.
  4. Elastomers and Plastics: TDI is also used to manufacture polyurethane elastomers for automotive bumpers, industrial rollers, sports shoes, and mechanical products.
  5. Rigid Foam Materials: TDI-based rigid polyurethane foam is used for insulation in household appliances such as refrigerators, as well as for building panels or laminated boards for residential casings or commercial roofing.
  6. Sealing Materials: Polyurethane formed from the reaction of TDI with polyether or polyester polyols can be used as the main component of sealing materials, characterized by high bonding strength, temperature resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance.
